“Before building our new home in Highton/geelong we decided to talk to a number of builders. After doing so, it was a simple decision to go with Mick Cole and Devcon properties for a number of reasons. Firstly, and perhaps most poignantly, Devcon just seemed to ‘get it’; they seemed able to connect with our vision and were pro-active in making suggestions as to how we could improve it and achieve it given our budgetary constraints. 

The lion’s share of the design was achieved via a series of round-the-table discussions with Devcon - before finalising with a local architect, who basically drew up what Devcon and ourselves had come up with. Our experience has been that the builder (who ultimately has to make it all happen) should be integral to the design process; and Devcon was very much on their forward foot when it came to that process.

Our build was a very fluid one; in that we made many design changes along the way, many of which came from suggestions from Devcon. The end result of this was that we got exactly what we had envisioned and not something that had been ‘carved in stone’ (on paper) during the initial design process. Devcon allowed us to really shape the house to our vision as the project moved through the various stages of construction.

We had challenges along the way; as is the case with all builds, but Devcon helped us find quick and economical solutions at every stage of the game. In the end, the house that we stepped into was far better than the one we had originally imagined. Simply put, we could not be happier.

I have known Michael Cole since 2006. During this time we have contracted him on numerous building projects ranging from the conversion of 4 carparks into a 2 bedroom apartment and construction of multi dwelling villa unit sites to, most recently, the construction of a 4 level apartment block (12 x 2 bedroom apartments ) on an inner city site in Geelong. 

Throughout all these projects Mick has displayed an excellent skill for keeping the projects running on time and on budget. His sites are always well maintained and kept very clean and tidy, trades are well coordinated and this always makes for a very smooth project with minimal disruptions or downtime. He has a good eye for detail and finishes so that defects are only minor and then are attended to in a timely and professional manner.  In particular, I was very pleased with our most recent project at One41 Yarra Street, Geelong which was a $3.5M contract (ex GST) on a tight inner city site. Delays were kept to an absolute minimum (no liquidated damages were claimed at all) and the final product was exactly as we had envisaged it from conception. Through regular site meetings and good communication, technical concerns that were raised by either party were dealt with quickly and professionally. I have subsequently recommended Devcons services to a friend of mine who has a commercial multi apartment site on the Surf Coast.
